Relaxed Performances

Relaxed Performances are designed to provide an opportunity for young people with autism, learning disabilities or other sensory and communication needs, who would benefit from a more relaxed environment at the theatre.

Our aim is to offer a supportive, understanding and welcoming atmosphere for all.

We have special arrangements in place to make your theatre experience as enjoyable as possible should you find that the environment of the theatre becomes overwhelming.

How are Relaxed Performances different?

  • Adjustments are made to the sound and lighting in the show.
  • Normal rules of theatregoing do not apply, such as having to keep quiet or sit still.
  • Venues create designated chill out zones outside of the auditorium, in case anyone needs to take a break during the performance.
  • Fully-trained staff and volunteers help and support throughout the event.
  • Free support resources are given to families to help prepare for their theatre visit.
  • Pre-show workshops.

Our Relaxed Performances are open to young people (up to the age of 25 and their parents and/or carers) with autism, learning disabilities or other sensory and communication needs who would benefit from a more relaxed environment.

Last year we welcomed 533 families to our relaxed performance of Wicked

Join us for a Relaxed Performance of Sister Act The Musical at the Dominion Theatre on Tuesday 2nd July 2024 at 6.30pm.

Based on the beloved film and featuring a marvellous Motown-inspired score by Tony® and 8-time Oscar® winner Alan Menken, this story of music, mishaps and nuns on the run is a joyous and uplifting tale of finding your voice and singing out, with your sisters by your side.

Relaxed Performance Consultancy

Having developed a successful delivery model backed by over 10 years of experience, we now provide consultancy services to other theatres/producers wanting to host a relaxed performance.

Previous clients include the RSC, the National Theatre, the Royal Court Theatre, Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, New Adventures and a number of West End shows.

We can help provide a smooth-running, accessible, enjoyable experience for audience members and ensure theatre staff, box office and company are confident and comfortable in delivering the event.

We can also promote your relaxed performance to our growing, highly engaged mailing list of over 1,000 families and organisations such as disability groups, special schools and other charities.

What is a relaxed performance?

You can now watch our very own animation video that we created to make more people aware of what a relaxed performance is, what changes might occur and why these performances matter!

A big thank you to to Nefertiti, TK and Fitzrovia Post for the voice over.
