From 14 October 2025 to 2 December 2025 we worked with students from Westminster to develop communication, performance skills and boost their confidence, while devising their very own theatre piece…
Over six weeks, Lead Facilitator Paul Andrew and Assistant Facilitator Ella McGran guided two year 5 classes through the process of devising, writing, and performing a theatre piece, which included an original song and rap, inspired by a PSHE theme chosen by their school. The school chose Bullying as it’s a core PSHE topic in Key Stage 2 that they wanted their young people to learn about in more depth.
As well as taking part in the weekly workshops, we aim to provide positive exposure to live theatre, so both classes went to see Matilda The Musical.
70% of students felt confident in expressing themselves creatively and contributing their ideas
85% of students want to join another Go Live Programme
86% of students are keen on future theatre opportunities
The skills that the young people said they learnt from the programme were:
- Creating characters
- Creating stories
- Speaking clearly
- Working as a team
- Building their confidence
- Stepping out of their comfort zone
- Expressing ideas creatively
Student feedback shows us how important programmes like this are in connecting young people with the life-enhancing benefits of theatre. Notably, one of the most significant outcomes was an increase in confidence, with two previously non-verbal students actively participating in the final sharing.
‘At first I was nervous talking in front of others, but then I felt brave.’
‘I liked that we listened to instructions, we didn’t have to read them.’
‘I loved performing in front of my parents. They were proud of me!’
‘We love Paul and Ella! They were so patient and kind. They made learning fun.’
‘I loved the games we played. They made me feel confident.’
We also asked the teachers to share some feedback from their experience across the six weeks:
‘Seeing children who lack confidence in the classroom talk and perform in front of others.’
‘A chance for children to really engage and be inspired through active games.’
‘Paul and Ella led workshops that inspired, motivated and challenged our pupils. They adapted the sessions to suit our needs. We highly recommended working with Go Live!’
We would like to thank our funders, John Lyon’s Charity and Brown Rudnik, for making this programme possible.
Donate today to help ensure every child, regardless of background, has the chance to experience the transformative power of live theatre and open doors for the next generation.
